• As part of the company’s social responsibility in 2024.
  • Through its social programmes, the company drives socio-economic development in the communities where it develops, builds, and operates renewable projects.

ACCIONA Energía has allocated over three million euros to social initiatives implemented throughout 2024, benefiting local communities where it develops, builds, and operates renewable energy projects. These efforts encompass 240 projects, positively impacting 312,380 people across 14 countries on five continents

As part of the company’s social responsibility, these initiatives aim to create a lasting positive impact and promote community well-being through active collaboration with stakeholders.

SDG 3: Health and well-being

In 2024, ACCIONA Energía led a series of health and well-being initiatives, including disease prevention campaigns such as Tókt, Cuídat, and Píntat de Rosa, which focused on breast cancer awareness in Mexico and Costa Rica. Medical assistance programmes for vulnerable groups were also introduced, alongside efforts to upgrade and adapt healthcare infrastructure

To address food security, the company implemented programmes supporting vulnerable groups, such as school nutrition initiatives in South Africa. Water access projects were carried out in countries like Chile and Mexico, modernising and automating water supply systems to ensure safe drinking water.

Promoting access to clean energy, ACCIONA Energía installed photovoltaic panels in homes, schools, and businesses and introduced solar-powered street lighting. The company also supported small-scale producers with energy efficiency initiatives to help optimise resource use

Acknowledging the importance of physical activity, ACCIONA Energía introduced programmes to encourage sport, organising tournaments, upgrading sports facilities, and promoting wider participation.

Additionally, the company invested in community development and integration by refurbishing and equipping local facilities, supporting neighbourhood associations, and initiating projects to drive sustainable local growth.

SDG 4: Inclusive and quality education

Education remains at the heart of ACCIONA Energía’s social initiatives, aligning with SDG 4’s goal of ensuring inclusive and quality education for all.

In 2024, over 100 scholarships were awarded to young people to support their studies. The company also funded the construction and refurbishment of educational facilities, including repairing a school and building a new classroom in India. Educational centres were further enhanced with teaching materials and equipment.

To support broader educational goals, the company launched programmes promoting various disciplines, such as the STEM Education Laboratory in the United States and the Mathematics in Motion initiative in Chile. Nearly 200 individuals received vocational training through workshops, including programmes focused on social and healthcare skills for socially excluded women in Spain.

Renewable energy and environmental sustainability play a central role in the company’s educational initiatives. Over 20 projects were launched in 2024, including renewable energy education, skills training tailored to the energy industry, and environmental awareness campaigns. Additionally, educational visits were organised to the company’s renewable energy facilities, such as the guided tours of the MacIntyre wind farm in Australia.

The company also supported cultural preservation and identity, exemplified by ongoing assistance for the Poniec Children’s and Youth Orchestra in Poland.

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

The third pillar of ACCIONA Energía’s social investment strategy focuses on promoting decent work opportunities and supporting economic growth. In 2024, nearly 20 social programmes were rolled out to benefit individuals, businesses, and local economies.

These initiatives included programmes fostering local entrepreneurship in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and beekeeping. Examples include beekeeping development projects in South Africa and the Dominican Republic.

The company also launched initiatives to enhance productivity and sustainability for agricultural cooperatives. A notable example is the DESARROLLA Villalba del Rey project in Spain, which supports the local olive oil cooperative.

Tourism development programmes were another priority, with initiatives aimed at transforming regions into sustainable destinations and addressing depopulation. This includes the Enhancement and Sustainable Development in Zones of Tourist Interest (ZOIT) programme in Chile.

Another example is the DESCUBRE Cerrato Palentino project, which promotes tourism in the municipalities of Herrera de Valdecañas, Hornillos de Cerrato, and Valdecañas de Cerrato through a thematic walking route, “Among windmills.” This route connects the towns and runs near the Celada Fusión wind farm.

All these efforts are grounded in a participatory approach, working closely with local communities to design solutions tailored to their specific needs. Furthermore, the focus is always on the future, aiming to create a lasting positive impact.
