ACCIONA Energía is the 7th largest wind operator in the world by net owned installed capacity. In 1993, it began construction of Spain's first wind farm (KW Tarifa, Cadiz), which was repowered in 2018, and in 1994, it commissioned El Perdón wind farm (Navarra), now Spain's oldest commercial wind installation, and still operating with high levels of availability.
Offshore wind energy is playing an increasingly strong role in the decarbonized energy system. It benefits from steadier winds that are of higher quality for electricity generation, as well as a greater availability of space.
In ACCIONA Energía we are committed to all technologies and solutions that help to decarbonize the economy. This also includes extending our wind power operations to the offshore field, based on almost 30 years’ experience in onshore wind energy.
Based on this strategy, we have formed an alliance with the British company SSE Renewables, one of the European leaders in offshore wind energy, to develop projects in several European markets
We are also the largest shareholder in the French company Eolink, which specializes in the development of floating structures for offshore wind power. ACCIONA's Infrastructure business is developing new construction concepts to standardize and reduce costs in the installation of offshore wind farms.
In parallel, ACCIONA Energía is attentive to any opportunities that might arise in this subsector, in which it expects to make significant investments.
In 2023, we installed 13.5 GW of renewable capacity worldwide
We are leaders in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of wind energy facilities.
We have built some of the world’s largest solar plants in the harshest environments.
Hydroelectric power is central to our origins and is now crucial for managing renewable energy systems.
We are experts in the engineering, operation, and logistics of biomass power plants.
Since 2007, we have been operating a plant in the USA that marked the resurgence of this technology.
Energy storage is a key element in a 100% renewable energy system.
