  • The ACCIONA Microenergy Foundation works on the three dimensions of Sustainable Development: economic, social and environmental.

These dimensions cut across the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved by the United Nations. The Foundation's work contributes mainly to achieving SDG7, 'Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all', through the Electricity at Homeprogrammes, which also feed into the SDGs concerning work, education, poverty, health and environment, among others.

Through 2016, the Foundation had provided basic electricity supply to about 46,000 people in isolated rural communities in Peru and Mexico with no prospect of a grid connection. The solar home systems,  provided the communities with almost 16 million hours of electricity in 2016, enabling them to gain extra hours for activities such as homework and avoiding expenditure on alternative energy supplies, which are detrimental to health. The systems also avoided CO2 emissions, and the disposal of batteries in environmentally sensitive areas.
