Global Renewable Energy Company ACCIONA Energía has executed two separate agreements with leading Australian retailer, Coles Group.

The agreements will see Coles purchase large-scale generation certificates (LGC) from ACCIONA Energia’s Mortlake South Wind Farm and Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm. The contracts will underpin Coles’ commitment to sourcing 100% renewable electricity by the end of FY25.

ACCIONA Energía’s Australian Managing Director, Brett Wickham said “we are incredibly proud to be able to support Coles in its transition to renewable electricity. As the world’s largest 100% renewable energy company with no fossil legacy in the world, ACCIONA Energia is uniquely placed to partner with corporates as they shift to renewable energy and towards net zero emissions.”

As part of its ambition to be Australia’s most sustainable supermarket and drive generational sustainability, Coles launched its Together to Zero sustainability ambitions in March 2021. A focus area is Together to zero emissions which is underpinned by new targets to accelerate climate action and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It includes being powered by 100% renewable electricity by the end of FY25, as well as an ambition to deliver net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
