ACCIONA Energía has reached an agreement to sell its 65% stake in the Chiripa wind farm in Costa Rica to Ecoenergía, the minority partner that currently holds 35% of the project.

The transaction, which will be completed by year-end, subject to the relevant government approvals and financial authorizations, reflects an enterprise value (EV) of the asset of US$80 million (€71.4 million).

With an installed capacity of 49.5MW, the Chiripa wind farm is located in the province of Guanacaste and has been in operation since 2015. The project supplies clean energy to Costa Rica’s electricity system under a long-term power purchase agreement within the BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) scheme, a concession model in which the developers finance, build, and operate the facility for a defined period, after which the infrastructure is transferred to the State. In Chiripa’s case, the concession ends in 2033.

The asset is backed by project financing of US$50 million (€44.6 million).

The transaction marks further progress in ACCIONA Energía’s asset rotation strategy, aimed at strengthening the company’s financial position through value crystallization, and highlights the strength of its assets in the market.

Recent milestones of the asset rotation plan include the sale of two hydro portfolios in Spain to Elawan Energy (175MW) and Endesa (626MW), an agreement with Luz del Sur for the sale of the San Juan de Marcona wind farm (136MW) in Peru, and another with Opdenergy for the sale of 440MW of wind assets in Spain.
