ACCIONA has been awarded five engineering contracts in Romania to carry out feasibility studies and technical projects to construct five highways totalling 540 kilometres, with a combined value of €16.5 million. This work positions it as one of the country’s major transport infrastructure companies.

The contracts consist of feasibility studies and technical projects for the following works: the high-speed Bacău-Pașcani highway, 78 km long, worth €3.48 million; the extension of the feasibility study for the Târgu Mureș-Târgu Neamț highway, 211 km long and worth €3.61 million; the feasibility study and technical project for the Buzău-Brăila expressway, 100 km long and worth €3.41 million; the feasibility study and technical project for the Focșani-Brăila expressway, 80 km long and worth €3.08 million; and drafting of the feasibility study and technical project for the Brăila (Jijila)-Tulcea (Cataloi) expressway, 70 km long and worth €2.91 million.

These projects, awarded by the Romanian National Transport Company over the last 18 months are part of the country’s Transport Infrastructure Plan and form part of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (LIOP) that is 85% financed by the EU’s Cohesion Fund and 15% local funding.

ACCIONA already has a presence in the Romanian infrastructure market through various water contracts, such as the extension of the sludge line for the Pitesti water treatment plant, or construction of 50 km of sewerage and drinking water pipelines, with 20 pumping stations and a remote control system for four municipalities.
