  • The Basque Regional Government's Department of Health has awarded ACCIONA a 4-year contract worth 4.9 million euros for cleaning Bidasoa Hospital and the health centres in Irún, Dunboa and Hondarribia (Guipúzcoa).
  • ACCIONA will use energy-efficient equipment and environmentally-friendly cleaning products to deliver the service, gradually phasing in biodegradable products.

ACCIONA Service has been chosen by the Basque Regional Government's Department of Health to deliver specialised and conventional cleaning services in Bidasoa Hospital and the health centres in Irún, Dunboa and Hondarribia.

The four-year contract, which may be extended by two years, is worth 4.9 million euros and covers the specialised cleaning of consulting rooms, the emergency area, hospitalisation units, the pharmacy room, laboratories and the surgery area. ACCIONA will also handle conventional cleaning of administrative areas, offices and common zones, as well as disinfection, pest control, waste removal, and uniform, linen and curtain management and cleaning.

The Basque Department of Health chose ACCIONA (over eight other companies) based on its commitment to sustainability by using energy-efficient equipment and environmentally-friendly cleaning products, with the intention of phasing in the use of biodegradable products. The Department of Health highlighted ACCIONA's technical organisation and process optimisation approach, which will improve the efficiency of the service.

This contract strengthens ACCIONA's position in the area of specialised ancillary services; the company already services hospitals and health centres elsewhere in Spain (Madrid, Galicia, Castilla & León and the Canary Islands, Catalonia and Aragon) as well as in Portugal, Canada and Qatar.
