The company already provides a service to two million people in Portugal, almost one-fifth of the country’s population

ACCIONA Agua, together with Aguas do Algarve, has inaugurated the wastewater treatment plant of Vila do Bispo in the Algarve to provide a service to a population of 14,000. The project, representing an investment of two million euros, involves an estimated daily flow rate of 3,551 cubic meters. ACCIONA Agua undertook all the work for the plant, covering civil engineering, equipment, electricity and automation.

ACCIONA Agua – together with its partner, the Portuguese construction company Oliveiras – has also placed the first stone and started work on the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) at Companheira, in Portimão (Faro District, also in the Algarve). This project has a budget of almost 10.4 million euros and the plant is expected to be fully operational some time in 2018. In this case, the average flow rate of treated water in the plant will be 32.061 m3 per day, to serve a population equivalent of almost 140,000. ACCIONA Agua will undertake the design, supply and assembly of equipment, electrical elements, automation and start-up, while Oliveiras will carry out the civil engineering and buried infrastructure works.

Present at the ceremony for the placing of the first stone were Emanuel Correia, ACCIONA Agua Director in Portugal, Carlos Simões, commercial Director at Oliveiras, the Secretary of State for the Environment Carlos Martins, the President of the Algarve Water Board Joaquim Peres, the President of the Municipal Chamber of Vila do Bispo Adelino Soares and the President of the Municipal Chamber of Portimão Isilda Gomes.

ACCIONA Agua has strengthened its commitment to Portugal over the last year through these projects. It already has around twenty water treatment plants and four purification plants that provide a service to around two million people, almost one-fifth of the population of the country.
