ACCIONA, through its subsidiary ACCIONA Green Energy Developments, has been awarded a contract for the supply of electricity in 2013 to the facilities of Canal Isabel II Gestión, a publicly-owned company responsible for the management of the integral water cycle in the region of Madrid. The contract represents an estimated consumption level of 467 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), with associated revenues of 56 million euros.

Starting January 1st 2013, ACCIONA Green Energy Developments, an ACCIONA subsidiary dedicated to the management and marketing of energy, will become the sole supplier in the free electricity market to the facilities of Canal Isabel II Gestión, This includes water impulsion plants, drinking water treatment stations, waste treatment plans, regulating reservoirs, pumping stations, offices, etc.

Through this new contract, ACCIONA continues to strengthen its energy marketing business to end customers, in which it expects to reach a volume close to 4 TWh this year. Among its customers are major companies in the field of infrastructures and public services such as Adif, Aena, Telefónica, Metro de Madrid, Roca, Tetrapak, Group Corío, APM Terminals and the Prado Museum. The company was recently awarded more than 94% of electricity supplies to the railway infrastructures managed by Adif in 2013, the biggest contract of its type in Spain.

The energy supplied by ACCIONA Green Energy Developments to Canal Isabel II Gestión will be 100% certified as renewable, accredited by the Spanish National Energy Commission (CBE), and it will come from the green energy installations that the company manages in Spain, with an operational capacity of over 6,000 MW.

Canal Isabel II Gestión is the company that manages the integral water cycle in the region of Madrid. It operates 14 reservoirs, 70 groundwater catchments, 24 large regulating reservoirs (and 271 of smaller size), 149 impulsion plants, 13 drinking water treatment plants, a 16,200-kilometre water transport and distribution network, 125 wastewater pumping stations, 11,148 kilometers of sewerage pipe networks, 64 storm tanks, 751 kilometers of sewers and underwater outfalls, 154 wastewater treatment plants, 23 water recycling plants, 63 pumping stations and a 214-kilometre reclaimed water network.

ACCIONA Green Energy Developments manages the sale of electricity produced by the installations of the ACCIONA Group, as well as that of special regime producers in Spain, and it markets electricity with a guarantee of renewable origin.
