Growing in wind power and solar PV
ACCIONA has installed in Chile one of the largest photovoltaic plants in Latin America. With 246 MWp and located in Atacama, El Romero Solar entered service in late 2016. The company also owns an operational wind farm and has a large portfolio of wind and solar projects. In 2014, the National Energy Commission (CNE) awarded the company (following a public tender) the supply of 600 GWh of renewable electricity a year to distribution companies in Central Interconnected System (SIC) for a period of 15 years starting in 2018. In 2016 ACCIONA was awarded 506 GWh of energy supply since 2022. It has also signed long-term power sale agreements (PPA) with important customers such as Google, Falabella and Enami. To meet these commitments, the company plans to expand its renewable generation fleet by some 400 MW by 2020, with new wind and photovoltaic facilities representing a joint investment of some 600 million dollars. The company is currently builing a 183MW-wind farm in La Araucania, a 62MWp-solar plant in Atacama and a 64MW-solar plant in Antofagasta.
ACCIONA has built and donated to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) the first renewable installation connected to the power grid in this paradisiacal world heritage site.
