    Cubillos del Sil Biomass Plant

Cubillos del Sil, one of the largest forest biomass plants in the Iberian Peninsula and Southern Europe.

ACCIONA is participating under an EPC contract in the construction, operation and maintenance (for 15 years) of a biomass power plant, with a capacity of 49.9 MW, located in Cubillos del Sil (León). It will be one of the largest forest biomass plants in the Iberian Peninsula and Southern Europe.

The plant will occupy an area of approximately 100,000 square meters and will generate energy from forest biomass. It is expected to consume about 280,000 tons of biomass per year and help forest management in the mountains of Castilla y León. This project will incorporate the latest technology applied to biomass plants and will be able to supply electricity to 50,000 homes.

The project will involve the creation of 200 jobs during its construction, and another 50 for the operation phase for at least 15 years. In addition to these jobs, there will be almost 300 jobs generated in the cleaning of mountains, fields and transport.

Fulfilling the objectives set by the European Commission for 2020, it will be a highly efficient plant in terms of generation and with a reduced level of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
