Solar

New applications for the oldest energy source in the world

Solar energy is destined to play a major role in the new sustainable energy model. It is therefore essential that we channel all our efforts into innovating in this sector, so that equipment becomes more efficient, costs are reduced and new applications are created. As creators of the "solar garden" concept, ACCIONA also collaborates in the development of new solutions based on the use of the sun's energy.

  • ILIS Project

The main aim of the ILIS Project (Innovative Lithium-Ion System management design for MW solar plants) is to design a management system for multi-megawatt photovoltaic plants using lithium-ion batteries as the best solution to improve the quality of the power generated, make it easier to integrate this power into the grid and enable a higher level of penetration by FV solar in the electric power system.

  • Testing of new photovoltaic technologies

Acciona Energy, as a developer and operator of photovoltaic plants in a number of countries worldwide, needs to characterize the performance of all the technologies involved in a PV plant under the different environmental conditions that can occur on solar plant sites.

  • Monitoring of photovoltaic plants

Large-scale PV plants have a high number of generators, so the correct characterization of them through automatic systems on site is critical to ensure the best levels of production and, as a result, the lowest cost of producing energy. That is the objective of this project.

  • Improved performance in thermal solar (CSP) plants

The main objective of this project is to optimize the start-up curves of steam turbines in CSP plants to obtain better exploitation of solar radiation. It also aims at better operation of the plant through the incorporation of advanced forecasting tools of direct radiation for the short term, and the modeling of the plant.

  • New CSP technologies

In this project, the company seeks to test and characterize the best technologies available in the market, working on new products with a number of manufacturers to reduce costs and improve the reliability of this energy source.

  • Store Project

Store is an integrated project to demonstrate electricity storage technology, using molten salt and flow batteries.

  • CETICA (The Eco-Technological City)

The project aims at developing new materials and construction systems in order to create a building model based on the concept of sustainable energy.

ACCIONA Energy's role focuses on developing photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technology for this end and designing micro-networks and standard solutions for supply and electricity management in the construction sector.

  • MEDIODIA Project

The project seeks to develop a new concept of an energy efficient advanced greenhouse for agricultural use.

ACCIONA Energy undertakes the development of both photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technology, which are ideal for application in this project.
