    Spain

The main centers of ACCIONA Energy are located in Spain, together with a large part of its productive assets.

The country was also the scene of its initial activities in renewable energy sources and has been a solid platform for the intense process of international expansion in which the company is still involved.

Spain currently accounts for around 66 per cent of the renewable electricity generation assets of the group, but this percentage will continue to fall in the next few years. ACCIONA Energy owns assets in Spain in wind power (4,747 MW); hydroelectric power (888 MW), concentrating solar power (250 MW), photovoltaic (2.48 MW) and biomass (61 MW).

It has also installed 1,354 MW of wind power and 67 MWp of photovoltaic capacity.

168 WIND FARMS, 4,603 WIND TURBINES

ACCIONA Energy owns 168 wind farms in Spain, consisting of 4,603 wind turbines and overall capacity of 4,747 MW (3,470 MW consolidated). These assets are spread over ten regions: Galicia (993 MW), Valencia (939 MW), Navarra (825 MW), Castilla-La Mancha (557 MW), Castilla y León (520 MW), Andalusia (514 MW), Catalonia (252 MW), Asturias (89 MW), Aragon (49 MW) and the Basque Country (10 MW). It has also installed 38 wind farms for third-party customers (1,354 MW).

    79 HYDROELECTRIC PLANTS

    79 HYDROELECTRIC PLANTS

All ACCIONA Energy’s hydroelectric assets are located in Spanish river basins. Specifically, there are 79 plants totaling 888 MW. Most are located (40) in Aragon and account for 704 MW. The rest stand on rivers in (89 MW), Cantabria (48 MW), Catalonia (41 MW), Castilla y León (4 MW) La Rioja and Valencia (1 MW in both cases). They produced around 2,000 GWh of clean electricity a year, equivalent to the average electricity consumption of 570,000 homes.

    5 CONCENTRATING SOLAR PLANTS

    5 CONCENTRATING SOLAR PLANTS

ACCIONA Energy has installed 5 CSP plants in Spain with a total capacity of 250 MW and represent an overall investment of around 1,200 million euros. They were grid connected between 2009 and 2012. With unit capacities around 50 MW, the plants are Alvarado (Badajoz), Majadas (Cáceres), Palma del Río I and II (Córdoba) and Orellana (Badajoz). The average production of these plants is equivalent to the demand from 133,000 homes, avoiding the emission of 421,000 metric tons of CO2 per year from coal-fired power stations.

    3 BIOMASS PLANTS

    3 BIOMASS PLANTS

Transforming agricultural or forestry waste into clean electricity. That is basically the activity carried out by the three biomass plants owned by ACCIONA Energía in Spain. The 30 MW plant at Sangüesa (Navarra), grid connected in 2002, was a pioneer in southern Europe and gave the company essential technological and logistical knowledge to later install plants at Briviesca (16 MW), in Burgos, and Miajadas (15 MW), in Cáceres. The last-named, grid connected in 2010, was the first in Spain to combine herbaceous and ligneous raw material. They cover the electricity demand of more than 130,000 homes.
